Abbots House
Complete refurbishment and the creation of 8000 sq ft additional space
Scottish Widows
Abbots House, Reading
90,000 sq ft
MCM were appointed to carry out a full refurbishment of Abbots House, a 90,000 sq ft office building in Reading. In addition, we carried out a full CAT B fit-out of 60,000 sq ft and renegotiated leases, on behalf of incumbent tenants Deloitte, in order for our clients to retain their tenancy. This was a turnkey refurbishment on behalf of Scottish Widows. The remaining 30,000 sq ft is occupied by lawyers, Boyes Turner, who remained in the building throughout the fit-out. The building was stripped back to shell and core including full services replacement. The works also included a new dedicated entrance for Deloitte, and increased floor space within the existing atrium. To rationalise the redundant plant space on the fourth floor we provided a new accommodation staircase, extended the lift lobbies and created additional floor space. In total the refurbishment resulted in 8,000 sq ft of additional space.
It was a fundamental requirement from Scottish Widows was that the refurbished building should achieve a BREEAM excellent rating.
